Downtown Oceanside has changed a lot in the last few years, but the walk hasn't: you park once, wander out to the pier, look at the water for longer than you planned, and then walk back up hungry. We're at 201 N Cleveland Street, right in the middle of that loop, with an open-air patio and twenty-plus taps.
Where we sit downtown
Cleveland Street runs parallel to the coast one block inland, so we're close enough that the pier is an easy stroll and far enough that you're not fighting beach parking. The Oceanside Transit Center and the COASTER platform are a few minutes away on foot, which means a surprising number of our guests arrive by train from San Diego or Carlsbad, eat, and catch a later one home. If you're stationed at or visiting Camp Pendleton, you're a straight shot down the coast.
The patio is covered by a pergola with greenery along the edges, so it's usable in the afternoon sun and comfortable once the evening breeze comes in off the water. Inside there's a bar with a lit counter, booths, and screens.
What to order
The Cheeseburger 101 is the one to start with — lettuce, tomato, onion, cheddar and our secret sauce, with fries or a side salad. It's the burger the brand is built on and it travels across both locations unchanged. From there, the BG Burger goes richer with caramelized onion, truffle aioli, bacon and bleu cheese, and the Fig Burger goes the other direction with fig spread, arugula and herbed goat cheese. The Impossible Burger covers the plant-based side of the table without feeling like an afterthought.
For the middle of the table: short rib nachos, roasted buffalo cauliflower, Bier Pretzels with bier cheese. Tacos are always a good call this close to the water — Baja fish, carne asada, al pastor, quesabirria with consommé for dipping.
On the beer side we keep 20+ handles rotating, heavy on San Diego County breweries, plus our house Biergarden Lager and Biergarden IPA, which are always pouring. The taps change constantly, so the honest advice is to ask the bar what just went on rather than trusting any list you read online, including ours.
Families and game day
Early evening is the family window. We're open from noon Monday through Thursday, and the patio between about four and six is calm, stroller-friendly, and quick. There's a kids menu — cheeseburger, tenders, mac and cheese, quesadilla — and nobody here is bothered by a loud table of eight-year-olds.
Game day is a different animal. Screens run at the bar for the big matchups and the room gets loud in the good way. If you want to watch, sit inside near the rail; if you want to hear the person across from you, take a patio table and let the noise stay indoors. Bigger groups should call ahead at (442) 266-8035 — we can usually put something together with a little notice.
Hours, parking and ordering
We're open Monday through Thursday from noon to 10pm, Friday noon to 11pm, Saturday 10am to 11pm, and Sunday 10am to 10pm. The kitchen runs noon to 9pm, until 10pm on Friday and Saturday, and weekends start with brunch at 10am.
Parking is street and public lots around the downtown grid; a block or two inland is almost always faster than circling near the pier. If you'd rather eat with your feet in the sand, order pickup on Toast and carry it down — the walk is short enough that the fries survive.
